FG X – Fine Grains 10 year AnniversaryGenre: Electronic
Line up: Nicoba, DJ Uraki Riddim, Blanali, CAIN, Moroka.
Open: 22:00–03:00 hrs
This November, we’re celebrating 10 years of Fine Grains. Expect far-reaching polyrhythmic sounds that are true to their local scenes: from Oslo to, Aberdeen, London, Amsterdam, and beyond. Join us as we put a marker on the 10th year with a showcase of label mainstays and future collaborators.
Chilean DJ Nicoba assaulted our senses as part of his Echobox show live at Dekmantel earlier this year. As a monthly exponent of exponent of ritmos latinos on his Con:texto show, he seemed the perfect foil for a live set by Colombian producer Blanali.
The warm hypnotising electronic jams from Blanali’s Birds of Paradise EP were a personal record, testament to a producer rich in talent and experience. We are excited to have the Barcelona-based artist play live in Amsterdam for the first time.
DJ Uraki Riddim, founder and host of the Fine Grains Echobox Show was raised on a diet of rowies, battered seagull suppers and jungle – so expect a calorie-packed set of fourth world and hardcore continuum-lathered sounds.
CAIN is the artist most synonymous with the label since our inception. Having completed a triplet of EPs, each telling their own story, we’re gearing up for a very special album release in 2023. Prolific in production, and with releases on other labels like Highlife, Darker than Wax & Boogie Box, his sound encompasses percussive influence from far and wide, yet always true to his bagpiping Highlands origins. This will be a set not to miss.
Closing proceedings we have the unrelenting machine funk of Moroka. Dance floor intensity with that loose swagger and swing we aspire to reference. Mo's forthcoming beat tape promises to be another stand out from a producer who has been refining his sound in recent years with releases on Steven Julien's Apron.

About
10 years of Fine Grains. Oslo, Aberdeen, London, Amsterdam. Far-reaching polyrhythmic sounds true to their local scenes. We keep slowly evolving our vision through an ever-growing group of friends. FG X puts a marker on the 10th year with a selection of label mainstays and future collaborators.Curated by founder Alexander Horne (DJ Uraki Riddim) with Duncan Grant (CAIN) & Rich Jones (Niven Trust) – the compilation has a nod to the trio' & label' Scottish roots. Tracks from Aberdonian T_A_M & Glasgow-based artist Susannah Stark tie illuminate their respective off-kilter patterns with a folk spirit. CAIN hatches a snarling dance floor builder in 'Talas'. Across the North Sea come tracks from skweee boss Beatbully & the enigmatic Center of the Universe – lofi analogue fun with no v-neck seriousness in sight. From fjord funk to the warm rhythmical pads of blanali and the bright uplifting synth-driven 'Whisper' by Lazy H. There are heads down percussive moments too with a new twist from Herman on his myoclonus drum riddims, a teaser for his 3rd EP due in 2023, and a head nodding broken beat number by SP wizard Pursuit Grooves – a long standing friend of the label since her Sonar show way back in 2010! Watch out the Belgiums are coming, D-Nite gives us some of that lowlands rave energy in 'Glistening Dust' – a snappy prelude to his forthcoming 'Echoes EP'. Closing things out, and kicking things off, is the epic 'Glossolalia' by the LA composer Jon Lloyd. An expansive beat-less composition that nods to film scores and floating in space.
